Archie comics to introduce openly gay character

I have no real opinion about the matter, but I'm sure some of you might with the injection of the LBGT agenda. Special thanks to The Four Color Media Monitor blog. (For those unfamiliar, it's a good conservative opining site about today's modern comics.)

Update: Our mod, sopdetly, via the Comments, poses a few essential questions:

No, but seriously. I'll ask it here because I trust y'all: What is this gay agenda I hear so much about, from your perspective? What exactly do you think all the gays are getting together and plotting?

And to be specific to the topic in the post, what about a long-running comic series suggests "GAY AGENDA" to you? Is it simply that they've put an openly gay character into the series? Is it that they're making a point to make sure everyone knows?
Fair questions all, so feel free to address them in your own comments, as well. As I type this, Mark Steyn is referencing this on Rush, now. How about that?

You know, I've identified as GLBT for 4 years now, and I still have not received my complimentary agenda I've heard so much about. I have to-do and shopping lists I need to be putting in there! Who do I contact about this oversight?

Way to find the most expensive agenda ever. *snerk*

I'm trying to imagine Katie with an orange Hermes agenda and it's just... not... working. Rainbow might work?

I think that people may label it as a "gay agenda" if the readers are reminded constantly about the character's sexual orientation. If that's going to be the case, then I think it's political correctness fail.

I'll roll my eyes if this kind of thing happens: "Hey look guys, it's gay Kevin! Hi, gay Kevin!" Hopefully Archie comics won't take this kind of approach, because I think that it would just reinforce labeling. The last thing the gay community needs to to only have token gay characters appear in the media.

Personally, I'm not opposed to an openly gay comic book character. I'll only be annoyed if that's the only characteristic the character has, though. Someone shouldn't be defined only by their sexual orientation.

I agree with you. Tokenism. Maybe they'll get Black Gary or Charlene, Who Is In a Wheelchair next?

You are not the only one, I have yet to get even one memo.

Is it because we're not liberal? (I assume you don't consider yourself such as you are here, heh.) Do only "real" gays get the official agenda, while us self-hating homocons get stuck with making do with post-its and writing on our hands?

It's not just conservatives that aren't getting their agendas. I'm a bisexual libertarian, thus being "half" gay and "half" liberal, and I haven't received mine either. But then, I haven't received my atheist agenda either. I am owed agendas! Is there a number to call to get them sent out? Or do I only get it once I've recruited five people, and it comes along with the toaster?

[identity profile] sopdetly.livejournal.com 2010-04-23 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait, atheists are supposed to get agendas, too? I didn't know that! I never got mine either.

I'd think we'd need the agenda first so we could work on getting the recruits. It would be so handy for setting appointments and laying out talking points.

Hmm, I suppose you're right. I guess that's why I don't have my toasters yet, I'm not organized enough to recruit people!

And of course atheists are suppposed to get agendas. I guess you missed that memo - I got the memo, but that was back in high school when I had more liberal tendencies. I guess they heard about my tendency to pal around with conservatives and they didn't want to issue me one anymore. Pity, I could've recruited a lot more people to the cause with one in hand ;)

I don't know what the deal might be, maybe I just do not hate America enough?

Then again, we could both be sleeper agents?

it is a set of beliefs and objectives designed to promote and even mandate acceptance and approval of homosexuality, and the strategies used to implement such. This article notes that the goals and means of this movement include indoctrinating students in public school, restricting the free speech of opposition, obtaining special treatment for homosexuals, distorting Biblical teaching and science, and interfering with freedom of association.

Okay, but what does that mean? By just asking you not to hate me for fancying my own gender, is that Pushing The Gay Agenda?

its more complicated than just that

Well, frankly, that's why I'm asking. Thanks for trying, though.
