Mortensen Calls Bush A Beast.

I understand that celebrities are entitled to their opinions. Everyone is entitled to their opinions. But when people in positions such as Viggo and Madonna get up and critisize the leader of the free world, the people who are truly apathetic stop and say: "Hey, Aragorn hates President Bush, maybe I should too."

I just really wish that celebrities would leave their politics at the door and just do their job.

LOL! I know that's not the reaction he's looking for, but "beast" is so... tepid. Like a kid having a temper tantrum, saying "you...you...you... BEAST!" They're making themselves look completely ridiculous.

Alice Cooper said something once that I loved about celebrities and their politics. "If you're listening to a rock star in order to get your information on who to vote for, you're a bigger moron than they are. Why are we rock stars? Because we're morons. We sleep all day, we play music at night and very rarely do we sit around reading the Washington Journal." Celebrities just need to hush. Being famous doesn't mean they have a right to act like they know what they're talking about, because most of them don't. Some do, but very few.

P.S. How dare those religious fundamentalists believe in religious fundamentalism. It's not like this is a free country, geez. In fact, if Viggo had his way, it would actually be a crime.

wow i'm stoopid...disregard my first comment

LOL, today I came across Hal Sparks's MySpace and read one of his blogs dissing conservatives and Judeo-Christian values. He really wrote out a long treatise (featuring the usual Hate Environment! Hate Gays! Hate Women! Warmongers! kedunkedunkel) and even dug up the Ten Commandments and other Old Testament rules, KJV-style, to show how contradictory they were to the New Testament. And there were all these people commenting on what a great post it was and how true and how insightful it was. And I was like, PEOPLE. He's an actor with a high school education who plays in a local metal band. It's amazing how many people think that television bestows magical powers of insight and wisdom on people.

It just calls up images of women in romance novels pounding uselessly on the villain yelling "you brute, you brute!"

And now suddenly I imagine Legolas topping Aragorn...

Sigh. Aragorn=hero willing to fight for what's right. Viggo=whiny weaselly wimpy wanker. I guess there's a reason it's called "acting". And I guess I should just be glad that Viggo was so good at it that I will forevermore be in love with Aragorn.

I just try to pretend that Aragorn is the "real" person and Viggo is just some actor putting on a part. But that gets into whole areas of what is "real" versus what is "fact", and it's way too early in the morning to get into that.

Viggo can't touch what Tolkien wrote, nor what the books and films mean to us, so I still maintain it's perfectly OK to be a LOTR fangirl. ;) Also, yeah, at least Viggo did a good job becoming Aragorn, and I can overlook the moonbattiness when the movies are playing. I can no longer say the same for Tom Cruise. I see him in films, and all I can think of is the Freaky Scientology Man aspect of his life.

I think some celebrities are so confused they mistake Hollywood for Washington D.C.

Wouldn't it be nice if they just shut up about politics and stuck to things like acting? Oh wait... they want an insane amount of money for that...

Viggo Viggo Viggo....*sigh*

I hate it when people in Hollywood get caught up in the rhetoric. I work in the Entertainment industry and I can honestly say most of them don't really have a clue. They think playing the President in a movie makes them equal to the President.

Please.

If it's not too personal, exactly what do you do in the entertainment industry?
While I was at grad school a woman who had graduated from the school came to talk to us. She was working as a greenlighter (someone who reads and approves scripts). She said actors are the dumbest people she's ever met by and large and that if they knew who she was they'd suck up to her to try and get their favorite scripts approved.

Honestly, when celebs say things like this it makes me want to go out of my way to NOT support their careers.

Like say Johnny Depp and Tom Cruise? I won't buy their movies unless one of my fav actors happens to costar or something like that gah.

Not that they care or it really makes a difference *snerk*

I get that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but as an actor he SHOULD be able to speak somewhat eloquently on a topic, [this is providing he knows anything about it]. Opinions with supporting facts/evidence I can respect, even if I don't agree with... but to just sit there and say "Bush is a liar" or "Bush sucks" or "Bush is a beast" accomplishes nothing.

I had a friend that absolutely hated Bush but she could never tell me why. In truth, if she'd had her way, all us religious fundamentalists would be dead. [We aren't friends any longer]

Okay so that was a great bunch of random.

*steps off soapbox* LOL

I used to be a "Ok, now I won't see their movies!" person, but you know what? You miss out on some really good movies then. Now, obviously I'm not breaking down doors to see Syriana, but when Matt Damon pulls out another Borne movie? I'll be there. :P I figure, the vast majority of Hollywood thinks I'm evil for my beliefs and how I vote, so why bother being surprised, and why let them ruin my good time?

Sure, it killed me a little bit to see that Elizabethtown had Susan Sarandon and Alec Baldwin. But it was funny how the movie kinda made fun of themselves, in a roundabout way. And. Y'know. Orlando Bloom is tasty. XD

And Johnny Depp is hot and insanely talented. And I respect him for being one of the few vocal anti-American Hollywooders to pack up his family and move to a different country.

And whenever Viggo says something dumb, I pop in LotR. To see him in what must be a terribly painful role as Aragorn just soooooothes my soul. ;)

You know, last night, my Aragorn poster fell on me while I was sleeping. I guess Viggo was attacking an evil conservative? ;)

What really angers me is that I want to like Viggo, because he seems like an interesting person, but when he says stuff like that, it's difficult to look at the characters he plays and not connect them to his politics. That goes for all of these Hollywood actors who feel the need to talk politics. I don't want to dislike them, because I enjoy movies that they're in. But if they're going to insult my politics, then there's a problem.

LOL. Run an official website for an actor and be in contact with them and you'll quickly start learning to distinguish actor vs. character without even thinking about it.

Actors = stupid. I'm not into LOTR but all the contact I've had with actors makes me cringe. My cousin (Billy Crudup--dunno if y'all have heard of him, but anyways) was bitching my dad out on the phone like a month ago because we all voted for Bush. Dad hung up on him after telling him he needs to get himself a brain that works instead of an inflated ego. ;D

That reminds me of a quotation by him that I read in a Spanish entertainment magazine where he said (translated) "Sauron is like the United States. If you don't do as he says he'll kill you." Or something along those lines, I forget the exact quote.

I think Viggo's a very talented person, but he needs to just STAY AWAY from politics. FAR, FAR AWAY.

Okay, who here has read Laura Ingraham's book Shut Up And Sing? Her book is about exactly this topic. She's a conservative radio talk show person and, according to an interview I heard, she got tired of going to concerts and getting lectured to instead of listening to the music she payed good money for! Hence the title.

If you can, try and find her radio program. She is a hoot!

But god damn it, why does he have to be so stupid when it comes to politics?! *cries*

At least Aragorn is good. Why can't Viggo be Aragorn? Aragorn would be a Bush supporter, he would... *keeps telling self that and is happy*
