Just the Facts, Please

Unfortunately, thanks to the J-school philosophy that activism trumps reporting, that's increasingly difficult to do. Certainly, one can't expect major news organizations to do research. So check out protein wisdom's fact-checking of a Newsweek article on FEMA in"Katrina Coverage, Stage 2: Competing Narratives Emerge".
Since it's not what a body doesn't know (particularly if he's aware of his ignorance) that gets him in trouble, but rather the things he thinks he knows that just aren't so, I can't blame anyone who doesn't read or watch the news anymore. Unless they have the time and inclination to be their own personal fact-checkers, they're not apathetic, they're sane.
